Sustainable Display Plinths
Virgin Voyages commissioned us to create four sustainable display plinths—one for each of their ships—to hero a scale model of the vessel onboard. Designed like high-end retail fixtures, each plinth is topped with a glass case and crafted entirely from brand-relevant waste.
Every base tells a unique material story:
– For Scarlet Lady, we created a white composite using waste collected directly from the Thames in London. The fragments were cleaned, chipped down, and embedded into a bright, speckled form—transforming river debris into a clean, sculptural surface. A quietly radical waste-based display. Read more here about our river clean with Thames 21.
– For Valiant Lady, we used shell waste to create layered tones inspired by a geological cross-section. The surface reads like an earthy cutaway—rich with texture and natural colour shifts.
– For Resilient Lady, we imagined an aerial view of a coastline—sea meeting sand. The beach section was made using leftover cork from a previous Virgin sculpture, reused here to ground the plinth in warmth and story.
– The fourth plinth, for Brilliant Lady, is coming soon. This one pushes form further, with a sculpted ribbed base made from plastic waste. A more dynamic, textural form for their newest ship.
Each retail plinth made from waste is both a platform and statement—an eco-friendly model stand that reflects Virgin’s values and elevates the ship it holds.
