The XOU Table Lamp
Sustainable Lighting Design, Made in the UK
The XOU table lamp is a standout example of sustainable lighting design — a project born from meaningful collaboration between Volume Creative, houseof, and a network of UK-based makers, including Spared. Over two years in the making, this sculptural piece blends material innovation with emotional resonance, turning the familiar gesture of “XO” (hugs and kisses) into a design language.
Crafted from solvent-free gypsum and post-consumer recycled plastic, the lamp’s terrazzo base is unique to each piece. A second cross-section, 3D-printed from a biodegradable sugarcane-based bioplastic, intersects the form in a bold gesture of modernity and tactility. Every component is designed and manufactured in London, reflecting a hyper-local, low-impact supply chain.
XOU represents the power of collaboration — a collective of small businesses and craftspeople putting their heads together to make something responsible, beautiful and new.
The XOU was developed as houseof’s first generation eco product — a commitment to responsible materials without compromising on playfulness or aesthetic punch.
As spotlighted by Recolight’s Circular Lighting Report, the project pushes boundaries in reuse, fabrication, and sustainable design thinking. This is lighting that speaks not only to interiors, but to values.
