Our Recycled Plastic Desk: Transforming Hotel Waste into Sustainable Interior Design

In collaboration with Room2 Belfast — part of the Lamington Group — we designed a striking, sustainable reception desk and custom café tables using the hotel’s own plastic waste.

The desk was handcrafted from recycled plastic bottles including used shampoo, conditioner, and body wash containers collected across Room2’s Southampton and Chiswick sites. These were sorted and chipped in our Brighton workshop and reprocessed into a tactile handmade surface that mimics earthy strata in a warm ombre effect. The final piece is both sculptural and functional, acting as a bold welcome statement and a confident commitment to circular design and low-impact hospitality.

Sustainable Materials Meet Everyday Hospitality

For the café space, we created coffee tables in terracotta tones using mixed plastic waste, designed to complement the desk and reinforce the hotel’s eco-conscious interiors. These tables continue the story of transformation through reclaimed material.

Room2 Belfast proudly positions itself as Northern Ireland’s first net-zero hometel, using 100% renewable energy and committing to zero waste to landfill. Our partnership played a direct role in showcasing that sustainable interior design can be both beautiful and functional.
