At Spared, our entire practice is built on rethinking waste. We turn discarded materials into meaningful, long-lasting objects — and that principle of circularity underpins everything we do.

We’re committed to reducing our environmental impact across our studio, workshops, supply chain and creative process. This policy outlines the actions we take to design responsibly, manufacture thoughtfully, and collaborate with others who share our values.

Our Commitments

  • Design from waste, not for landfill. Our projects start with waste — and end in something built to last. We actively avoid virgin materials where possible, and prioritise local waste streams with a clear audit trail.
  • Keep production local. All our work is made in the UK across three workshops, minimising shipping and supporting regional craft.
  • Reduce energy use and emissions. Our main workhop is located in a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ building. We favour low-energy equipment, shared transport, and virtual collaboration wherever possible.
  • Minimise and repurpose waste. We reuse offcuts, reduce printing, and chip plastics from previous projects for reuse. Even our admin systems are digital-first to avoid unnecessary resource use.
  • Source consciously. Where we do need to buy new materials (e.g. binders, tools, packaging), we seek verified, traceable and local suppliers who align with our sustainability goals.
  • Work with others who want better. We actively encourage our clients to use their own waste — whether it’s building-site rubble, oyster shells, or old signage — and support them in finding low-impact, closed-loop solutions.

Monitoring & Progress

We’re not perfect, but we are committed. We set internal goals to reduce our environmental footprint year on year, and we’re working with partners (including ClimatePartner) to measure and improve our performance.
